Tanat is a music project by Sarah Tanat Jones.

Sarah is a singer, drummer and percussionist. She began her musical life in Scotland, playing pounding disco drums whilst being lead singer for a pop band. Moving on to the world of electronics, sampling and filters, the next few years formed time spent learning about production and self-sufficiency as a woman making music solo.

Life has taken Tanat to many different cities: born in Brighton, and having lived in Edinburgh, London, Glasgow and Oxford, she is now settled in Bristol - dislocation and belonging becoming an increasing theme in her lyrics. Moreover, her name and the name of this project, Tanat, links with another place: Wales, where the Tanat Valley is her ancestral base point, this area a wellspring for British choral singing.

Music production is a self taught and always ongoing process for Tanat. Layering percussion and found sounds, finding new ways of using the voice, weaving this into an intricate patchwork of harmony and rhythm, making stop frame animated videos and building a custom live looping set, is all part of the joyful whole. Being DIY, with advice and support from friends, is an important and empowering aspect of this project.
